On their QuickBooks web site, Intuit advertises that the program can do job cost tracking. I own a small engineering firm, so we used the Professional Services Edition. For a company like mine, 95% of the cost of any job is labor -- people who are billing time to a client. Unfortunately, QuickBooks doesn't record that on the job cost. So for a job where I bill ten thousand dollars for my engineers' time, with no reimbursables, the job cost is zero. That would be nice, but it is totally worthless as far as knowing which jobs are profitable. If I buy a valve and charge it to the client, that cost will show up though.

It seems to me that a program advertising itself as a Professional Services Edition that does job costing would track the cost of labor. But it doesn't.

QuickBooks also tries to force you to use their payroll service. If you use someone else's service, you can use it with QuickBooks only if you buy an add-on package that works with Excel. So instead of having things work seamlessly, you have to export your payroll information to a new program and work with it there.

The earlier reviews on this product scared the beejeepers out of me. I had to upgrade because Intuit was stopping support on the Quicken 2005 I was using. I would no longer be able to download stock prices, transactions from credit card companies, etc. It's their way of extorting more money out their users. They only provide 3 years of download support. Then you either upgrade or enter all the data manually.
Overall, the product has not been too bad. So far, I have not found one single feature I would have paid for that makes Quicken 2007 better that the 2005 version. The graphics a little better though - but that is inconsequential.
The upgrade was easy, it's stable, and the operation is very similar to 2005. It appears as if all the reviewers were Beta users.
While I'm still very peeved at Intuit for forcing the upgrade, the product is not that bad. I wish I had a good alternative, but hate to walk away from 10 years of data in Quicken.

My mother worked for H&R Block for many years, so I have no personal problem with them.

I have not used the 2004, but I just quit working on the 2002 edition. I got halfway through my return (20 hours work) and I finally quit. The numbers were incorrect, but I did not notice until the last few entries.

I have rental properties and, even though I entered the information where it belonged, it somehow got transferred elsewhere. All of my real estate taxes got moved from where they belonged to form A. Entering the information directly onto the tax forms required me to override every single step (3 mouse clicks, I think?). Also, I was not able to go to help and figure out what my standard mileage cost was, so it took me considerable time to go through their mileage dialogue boxes when all I wanted was standard mileage.

I had used Turbo Tax in previous years and was not unhappy with them; however, I had heard that Turbo Tax put spyware on the computer, and that it was difficult to install on more than one computer, so I decided to opt for a change. TaxCut was cheaper, and I figured there would really be no difference (I used Parson's tax software years ago and liked them until they stopped making that program). Anyway, at least for year 2002, TaxCut is much worse than Turbo Tax and Parson's old tax program. The big problem is, it puts information in the wrong place; and I have been doing my own taxes for 20 years, so it is not a mistake which I am making.

I downloaded TaxAct just a moment ago; it is cheaper than either turbo tax or taxcut, and so far, it behaves just like it is supposed to. I have been entering some info by their prompts and other info directingly onto the tax forms, and, except for the fact that the auto-save requires me to hit the hardreturn every time, other than that, I really like TaxAct. It is functioning exactly how it is supposed to. My company has been using QuickBooks for at least 5 years and up until the 2006 release has only really had problems when we upgraded for about a day getting the file converted. We loved QB and it has worked well for us. Until 2006. This software has been one bug, glitch, or problem after another. Many of the customer/vendor search options are gone. But mostly there are so many bugs. Every time we sign in we are always told we have paychecks to send, EVERY TIME-even when we don't which is 90% of the time. Our friendly reminders (i.e. Don't forget your W-2s) never go away, even when we say it is done. We can not create an accountants copy from our computers anymore- now it is only from the server. There have been more problems but these are just what I have been dealing with this week. Qb is a great program but 2006 sucks!!!

After many years with Windows, I have purchased an iMac. I needed to migrate years of Quicken data from Windows, so I bought Quicken for the Mac. The software installed easily and I followed the directions for migrating the data. However, when I brought up the data on the Mac, it was hopelessly scrambled. History and balances were completely useless. Individual transactions -- even simple ones from the checking account -- were duplicated, triplicated, or worse. I reread the directions, tried a second time and got the same results. I called Quicken technical support and confirmed that I used the right procedures. Quicken admitted that this was a problem and that the only way to fix it was to go in and manually delete all the duplicated items. Looking at thousands of transactions and having no confidence that, after all that work, I would have usable data, I gave up, deleted the migrated file, uninstalled Quicken and sent it back for a refund (which I am still waiting for). I considered running Quicken for Windows to a certain date, then starting Quicken for Mac at that point as a blank slate, but then the data would be split between two locations and there would be no continuous history. So now I need to keep my old Windows PC going for the sole purpose of running Quicken forever (with occasional upgrades) and having reliable financial history. The only way out would be if a future version of Quicken for Mac was capable of seamlessly migrating data from Windows. In the meantime, the current version is absolutely worthless to me because of this migration issue.

1. Endless login screens: every time I attmept to print checks - either in native window or from Quicken, I have to go thru a series of login screens, even if this is within the same Quicken session. In the software native window, the "back" button logs you out (unexpectedly) and you have to login again.
2. The apperance of printed checks is different from what you seen in check designer - text is misaligned, extends beyond printable boundary etc.
3. Using paper with 3 checks per page, be prepared to waste the whole page even if you print just one check: the software prefills another check on a page with your personal info, byut without the rest of check graphics, making it unusable for either future printing of manual writing
4. worst of all - every time you quit the software (e.g., finish printing), the computer is frozen for half a minute

For example; importing customers, anything with inventory, anything with vendors. All anyone can do in multi-user mode is create invoices and POs. It was a waist of money for us as we still find ourselves in single user mode most of the time. Oh, and the there are tuns of "OK" buttons to press. QuickBooks Premier 2005 This instant

I had few expectations for this product as my accounting and finance training was in large companies with multi-million dollar systems running on massive SAP & Oracle databases. So moving to found my own business meant learning a lot of new infrastructure, including our financial support.

Quickbooks consistently impresses me with its ability to do what I need. For a small company, it provides a great deal of features and flexibility- you really can do an awful lot with the product. I am pretty confident that it will carry us through multiple offices, out of state locations, etc.

You definitely need some accounting background (in my opinion) to try to dive in and use it; because it's so rich, and can do so much, I can't imagine trying to start using it without that background. I did go to a class through the SBA to get a quick primer on how to post transactions and such, which was useful.

You can accomplish the same thing many ways in the system, which is both good and bad: the flexibility is nice, but it means that the user has to be disciplined about developing a consistent process. That's not a problem, just a quirk; were Intuit to provide "templates" (not really "recommendations" b/c that might be "advice") on how to post things, that would be useful.

Again, I'm just starting to explore what can be done with the tool, but am very satisfied with the results and look forward to learning more about the product.

I purchased `QuickBooks Pro with Enhanced Payroll for 3 employees' online for less than $200. When I registered payroll with Intuit, I was informed that if I exceeded payroll for more than 3 employees I would have the option to pay $10 per month or an additional $100 per year for the unlimited version.

I now have 5 employees and contacted Intuit to upgrade to the unlimited version. I was informed by 'John `that because I didn't buy the software from Intuit at the retail price, I would have to pay him $349 for the unlimited version and then contact customer service to provide them with a receipt for what I actually paid for the product and they would decide how much to charge me for the unlimited upgrade. Read all the bad reviews of Quicken for Mac, including the new release "essentials", and thought my only option was to use Parallels so I could run the latest version of Quicken for Windows. To my surprise, MoneyDance is basically a clone of Quicken 2003. I was also able to import all my QIF data from 2002 with NO errors!!!! Ive been doing my own taxes for over ten years using popular tax software like TurboTax or TaxCut. When I was single and had no dependents the process was quick and painless. A few years ago things got more complicated after I got married and had a mortgage, retirement savings, stocks, etc... My big refunds quickly shrunk and sometimes I owed money. Thats when I started questioning why I was paying $50-$60 bucks every year for increasingly bloated tax software. TurboTax used to be so simple but it seems like the "wizards" kept asking me more and more questions every year. Not to mention the constant up-selling of the products they advertised. Didn't I already pay you $60 for this boxed software? Why are you trying to take more of my money!

This year I decided to look for new options. I didn't expect to find much since the Mac seems to have more limited software than Windows. I had never tried OnePriceTaxes before but for the price they couldn't be beat. I decided to give them a shot and I am glad I did. After purchasing the software I quickly got an email from them allowing me to begin my taxes online. I didn't even have to wait for the CD to arrive in the mail a couple days later. The software was really simple to use. Its broken down into 5 basic categories. General, Income, Expenses, Deductions, and Credits. Once your done it can automatically copy that information to fill in your State return at no extra cost. Even with all the forms I had to enter this year I was able to finish both my federal and state taxes in less than 20 minutes. When I got stuck on a question the software explained it to me in basic terminology that even I could understand. If your tired of all the other options out there this software really can't be beat. Its simple, straightforward and no extra junk or hidden charges to get in the way.
